Melissa De Vries-Joseph is the epitome of a modern-day artist—an actress, dancer, MC, and producer whose talents are as vast as they are deep. She grew up in Blackheath in Cape Town, South Africa, and has always known that she belonged to the arts. It was a childhood passion that transformed into a career that encompasses TV, film, and live events making her a well-known and respected figure among South Africa’s entertainment industry. For Melissa, it wasn’t just about having raw talent; it also took hard work and dedication. She perfected her craft at City Varsity before obtaining a Licentiate of Trinity College London in Drama and Speech as well as an Associate certification in the same field. This institutional education equipped her with a firm foundation for manoeuvring complex elements of the industry and enabling her to undertake various roles with self-assurance and sophistication. She is known for bringing to life different characters over the years that have has had a lasting impact on her audiences. Her role as Frieda on Showmax’s comedy, Mince Jou Hare or even that of Miss Sasha Daniels on Arendsvlei, displays her versatility, depth and dynamic nature. Every role she portrays, aligns with her aim to tell stories through art, making social connections with people through meaningful narratives and delve into human emotions deeply. Melissa is not limited to acting only, driven by her belief in storytelling’s power, she started MDV Productions that delivers content with both entertainment and meaning. She has crafted international award-winning short films like Ons se Land, KO Kid, and Cleaners. Apart from being celebrated at international festivals, these films have also provided opportunities for other artists to showcase their talents.

Beyond the screen, Melissa is a seasoned MC, having hosted prestigious and international events that include Hip Hop International, Red Bull BC One and the Iconic Urban Dance Awards. De Vries-Joseph recognises the significance of developing her own opportunities and breaking new ground. Her television program A Walk with Mel, currently airing its twelfth season, demonstrates her capacity in consistently producing relevant content that captivate viewers. Melissa juggles many responsibilities and multiple facets of the industry, each a reflection of different abilities and her dedication to the arts.
